He was a lawyer, living in Boston, where he married Mary F. Ayer on 15 Apr 1910, ceremony performed by his uncle, Rev. Edmund S. Rousmaniere. He served two years in the Massachusetts Legislature. In 1910 he moved to New York, and became president of Cabot Manufacturing Company of New York. He was a director of the Grace Nation Bank, and a director of the National Council of American Cotton Manufacturers. He lived at his estate, Bobingsworth, in Oyster Bay, NY, where he was mayor for four years.¹
